LM74 Geological Sciences and Technologies
Course description
The program is divided into 2 curricula: Geodynamics, Geo-resources and Sustainable Development; and Geology, Environment and Hazards. It educates experts of the territory through numerous practical and professionalizing activities in the laboratory and in the field, internships in Departmental laboratories or in extra-university facilities (companies, public structures, professional offices) favoring direct contact with the world of work. It trains experts in geological modeling, thematic cartography, analytical data processing, environmental risks, fossil and renewable energy resources, industrial rocks and minerals, applied geology, geomechanics, and hydrogeology.
Graduates in Geological Sciences (L-34 DM270), Earth Sciences (16 DM509/99) or with any other bachelor’s degree class that meets the curricular requirements indicated in the course regulations. The ideal candidate has an interest in technical and applied aspects of geology (natural and anthropogenic hazards, geo-resources, environmental sustainability).
The program offers extensive multidisciplinary and technical-professional knowledge and skills on the major issues of natural and anthropogenic risk assessment and management, applied geology, geological modeling, land use planning, exploration, protection, exploitation and sustainable use of geo-resources, climate change.
Greater possibility to work as a free-lance professional and to carry out research in public bodies/companies/agencies are increasing thanks to innovative technologies and to the wide-range competencies geologists acquire: building sites and big works, geo-Gnostics, hydrogeology, geothermal energy, mining research/hydrocarbons, land management, remote sensing, geological and cultural heritage, forensic field
